Volumes 1 & 2 follow Becky’s transition into a world where unorthodox is the norm and alter egos are a way of life. Though she’s brought onboard at the same time as ‘Babe’ and Jane, Becky’s journey is all her own. These three recruits are essentially the vehicle into the collective, a business that operates under the rules of a club.
The Mercer Estate Tops all have their own motivations, methods and missions. In volume 3, Sam’s return from her two-year hiatus in Amsterdam shakes things up the core four: Black, Becky, Random and Sam herself. The reverberations extend from there, begetting a string of personal power plays on top of the team’s not-so-everyday work lives.
Once Becky becomes official in volume 3, a chart of suite holders and their subordinates is included at the back of each book; a chart that becomes a chessboard, shifting players around as early as volume 4. Though Becky’s confidence grows in this book, Babe is the one who’s actually gaining traction.
Volume 5 is when Becky forges her own path based on an earlier tip from Black, that in a game about power, knowledge is game. The purpose of her recurring nightmare is realized in a twist that propels everything in a new direction.
As its name implies, The Alternative Series is not your typical romance saga, and the moment we met was a lie will ultimately tie the beginning to the end.
